A too-tight sock can irritate bunions and make your toes rub together to form blisters. A too-loose sock results in fabric bunching up and rubbing your foot, again increasing the risk of blisters.
The Balega socks have an excellent fit that is close-fitting without being constricting. They are made of a moisture-wicking fabric blend to help prevent blisters.
Seamless Toe and Cushioning
The Enduro model has a light amount of cushioning that extends over the toes, as well as all along the sole and heel. The toe cushioning might help prevent black toenails. The top of the foot is a lighter mesh to provide good ventilation.
The Enduro has an extra-deep heel pocket to help keep the sock from creeping up or down. This worked well for me through walks on a variety of hilly terrain. Many socks have a section of ribbing across the instep which I find irritates my bunion. The Enduro doesn't have that ribbing.
I've had many problems with socks shrinking tremendously after I buy them. With the Balega socks, there was some shrinkage. I initially bought the Large size and I switched to the XL size. After washing, these fit my women's size 9.5 wide foot perfectly without constricting my toes.
I am very happy with the Balega socks and have worn them on several 10-mile walks.
The socks come in quarter sock, low cut, no-show and crew length, in both men's and women's sizes. I bought the men's size in order to get the XL.
