Multnomah Falls is a favorite stop on either I-84 (Exit 31) or the historic Columbia River Highway. The hike from the Multnomah Falls Lodge up to the midway Benson Bridge or to the top of the falls is very popular. I recommend wearing trail shoes or hiking boots as the trail is rocky and narrow, but I've seen many a Sunday driver stop and do it wearing high heels or flip flops. To avoid these folks, make this an early morning hike. There is a 1.2 mile trail (one way) to the very top of the falls, gaining 760 feet.

For a long, memorable hike, I recommend the Oneonta Gorge - Multnomah Falls Loop, a 12-mile walk all in the woods past the spectacular waterfalls.

The lodge serves snacks and meals. I've spent a New Years Day breakfast there and a spooky November dinner where the electricity was knocked out and we had soup and salad by candlelight.
