I enjoyed some of the best walking vacations and memories of my life in 2011. Here are the places and races.
We'll start with letting go. I had been a part of the Vancouver International Discovery Walk Festival for 15 years. But our organizing committee failed to groom successors, so we scaled back the event in 2011 to a 5K/10K walk. Rather than spend the day volunteering to register walkers, I just did a shift in the morning.
Then I enjoyed the 5K walk with my brother and cousins. He's the tall one second from left, I'm the short one in purple, second from right. In between are my cousins. They include Rozy Weatherby (orange jacket, center), president of the Oregon Trail State Volkssport Association, a walking luminary herself!
And, yes, my 9-months-pregnant cousin, Misty (crouching by the cannonballs), enjoyed the whole walk without any problem. Baby Ray was born a couple of weeks later.
