The Bottom Line

Gorge Delights PearBars are just fruit - pear puree and pear or other fruit concentrates depending on which flavor. They are basically a thick fruit leather. These can be a good substitute for an energy gel, a source of natural sugar energy for endurance. Our taste testers didn't like the grittiness of the pear leather. It is a good source of natural fiber, but it also sticks to the teeth and begs for immediate flossing. We wouldn't want that while out on a walk.

As an Energy Bar for Athletes

The Gorge Delights PearBars are just carbs, and as such they may be a natural alternative to calories from an energy gel or from a sweetened sports drink. The high amount of carbs will provide endurance energy, especially for distance walkers and hikers. With fruit sugars, walkers should test it out for tolerance before using it in a competitive event. We didn't like the gritty consistency from the pear puree, and it tended to stick in your teeth and dental work. We wouldn't want to eat this on the trail and spend the next miles picking it out of our teeth.
