About America WALKs:
America WALKs is a national coalition of walking advocacy groups dedicated to promoting livable communities where people walk because it's a real choice.

Their mission is to foster the development of community-based walking advocacy groups, and to educate and inform the public about the benefits of walking, in order to improve conditions for walking.

A National Coalition:
America WALKs provides a support network for local pedestrian advocacy groups. They offer advice about how to get started and how to be effective with public officials and engineering and design professionals.

At the national level, they are working to increase funding for pedestrian transportation and lobbying for public policies that support walking. They support and will work with other efforts such as the Partnership for a Walkable America and the Campaign to Make America Walkable.

Who is involved in America WALKs?:
America WALKs was founded in 1996 on the principle that local grassroots advocacy is the most effective way to transform our country's transportation system. Their strength comes from their member organizations, listed below.

Each member organization has a representative on the America WALKs Board of Directors.
