Team Prevention

About Team Prevention:

Enter a selected marathon or half-marathon and receive coaching and training tips from Prevention magazine's experts. Members also receive a training t-shirt and invitation to a welcome reception at the marathon or half-marathon.

Dates and Locations:

For 2006, registration ends July 31. The two selected events are the Portland Marathon on October 1st or the Hartford Half Marathon or Full Marathon on October 14th.

Registration:

Register online. Entry fee varies depending on the event and the package chosen. If you have already registered for one of the events, you may join Team Prevention for an additional $25, receiving the coaching and training shirt. Packages include the marathon/half-marathon registration and Team Prevention coaching and shirt, a package including a reception and dinner, and a package including hotel as well.

The Marathons and Half-Marathon:

The Portland Marathon in Portland, Oregon is one of the most walker-friendly and first-marathon friendly events in the world. The course remains open for over 8 hours, with an alternate course the final 4 miles for those slower than a 7 hour pace. Portland has a Nordic Walker division. The Hartford Marathon and Half Marathon keep the main course open for 7 hours, with slower walkers moved to the sidewalks. Hartford has a Race Walker division.

Coaching Support:

Team Prevention members will receive Prevention's specially designed t-shirt, subscription to Prevention's online training newsletter, and personal training tips from Prevention's editors and experts.
