The Bottom Line
For hands-free night walking, reading, and other tasks, this hands-free LED light is a great solution. It runs on 4 AA batteries that should last for 120 hours. The angle of the light is adjustable. It is worn on a strap around your neck. Fast walkers may experience it swaying during walking. But for simple strolling, it works well to illuminate your path. The best use is for reading and for utility use.
Pros
  • Hands-free light
  • Adjustable angle
  • Long batter life
Cons
  • May sway a lot if walking fast
Description
  • LED hands-free light worn around the neck

Guide Review - Beam N Read LED Light
This utility light can be used for dozens of activities. I tested it for reading and for night walking and I was very happy with it. The Beam N Read LED 3 has three bright white LED bulbs. You turn it on and off by flipping the light up or down. It has a neck strap for wearing around the neck. It uses four easy-to-install AA batteries, which should last 120 hours. This makes it heavier than most LED headlamps, which use AAA batteries or fewer AA batteries. It has a red filter to use if you want to maintain your night vision in low light conditions.

Walking

Wearing a light on a neck strap allows it to be hands-free, like a headlamp. But sometimes headlamps can be uncomfortable and walkers might look for a different hands-free solution. With the neck strap, those going an easy walking pace will have minimal sway of the light. But for racewalking and jogging, it is likely that the light is going to sway back and forth. I enjoyed using this for night walking around my house and yard, when I might have used a flashlight. I think this is a great item to have for utility use around the house, and emergency use for the home, office or car. Being able to have a good hands-free light with long battery life is great for emergency preparedness.

Reading

I really enjoyed using the Beam N Read for reading in bed or reading maps when out walking at night. It has a larger coverage area than most clip-on booklights, without having to clip it to what you are reading. And once I had the Beam N Read for reading, I was enjoyed having it around my neck for trips to the bathroom, to the kitchen for a drink of water, etc.

Other Beam N Read Products

The Beam N Read LED 6 has six bulbs, making it a bit too large for walking use and reducing the battery life. It has a 4X magnifier, which is useful for crafts work.

The Beam N Read LED 103 has 2X, 4X and 6X magnifiers and three LED lights.
