| I was on of the 8-person trail marking team for the 2001 Seattle Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk. Our task was to mark 60 miles of trail from Enumclaw to Seattle. The team consisted of captain Gretchen and team members Cheryl, Dee, Victoria, Kimberly, Julie, Paola, and me. |

Training As captain, Gretchen contacted us by phone and email. We then had a live meeting with her in July where we worked out a couple of basic logistics. As a team, we were low on Avon 3-Day Walk experience but very talented as individuals. I was very pleased to meet my team mates and see how intelligent and organized they were. I was the only one who had walked an Avon 3-Day Walk. I have 15 years of trailmaster and trail marking experience in volkssporting, but not for the Avon walks. Paola and Julie had the most knowledge of the roads and areas we would pass through. Victoria and Kimberly were a
mother-daughter team, and Kimberly was pregnant with twins. Paola and
Cheryl were friends. The rest of us had not met each other before.
We each had our reasons for joining up. After I walked the DC Avon 3-Day
Walk, I immediately signed up for the Seattle crew to continue with the spirit I
caught at that walk.
