For the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer and for the Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk, walkers must raise a minimum amount of money to participate ($1500 to $2000), as well as pay a fee of $50-$100 at the time of registration.  This seems to be a challenge, but walkers average $3000 in donations.

Program Materials
Newsletters and emails from the programs have a wealth of information on fundraising, including form letters, postcards, and your pledge forms.

Donation Forms
Your donors will pay upfront rather than paying a pledge after you walk.  The walk website allows you to set up an individual pledge page for them to make a donation online with a credit card, and to see how your fundraising is going.  Paper donation forms or coupons are also sent to you to use to send to donors and to send in with checks that donors have given you.
Pledge payments may be made by personal check, credit card, or installment payments.

Fundraisers
The houseparty is a fundraiser encouraged by the walks.  Work with your Walker Coach to set it up, have a speaker, and invite potential donors.  Walkers may also use other creative ways to do their fundraising - having a garage sale or bake sale, working with other social or athletic events to have donation jars placed, doing a car wash, etc.

Expect Success
The breast cancer cause is one that touches most people, and expect that people want to donate.  Stress your commitment to the walk and your need for the support of friends, family, and co-workers.

My first donation came from an aunt who gave generously and forbade me to walk so far!  She respects my commitment and is amazed at how far I plan to go to raise money for the breast cancer cause.

Don't make any assumptions about who will give or how much.  There are many people who live frugal lives but are generous in their donations to charity.  There are many people who have loved ones who have survived or been lost to breast cancer.  You will hear many touching stories as you ask for donations.  Let this energize you and deepen your commitment.

Team Work
Your walk organizers will have fundraising workshops and more suggestions in the monthly newsletter.
