Here
are my victory feet - just four small blisters, which quickly healed. My
anti-blister method of lathering the feet generously with vaseline worked great.
My muscles also survived great. All of the training really paid off in being able to easily carry my own luggage around the airport on Monday for the long trip back home.
Here
are my shoes - comparing the ones I did my last 3 months of training in plus
walking the actual event with the same model I am breaking in. The New
Balance 829 is a lightweight runner for people with neutral feet who don't need
extra support. I love them. Note where I have worn off the
sole quite a bit on the center of the ball of the foot.
Did I learn lessons on being both human and kind? Yes. After organizing walking events since 1987, this was an event that was simply in a class by itself. I was utterly impressed with the organization, quality, and especially the spirit of the staff, crew, and volunteers. No other walking event provides this same quality. Pallotta TeamWorks gets my esteem and applause.
Our walk netted over $6.4 million for breast cancer charities and provided life-enhancing experiences for survivors and their loved ones and supporters who walked, crewed, volunteered, and pledged. I look forward to the day when there is no more breast cancer and we can walk for other causes - or for the sheer joy of walking.
