| Day Three - Avon 3-Day Walk |
First
stop at the finish is to pick up your trophy - a long sleeved victory
t-shirt. Survivors who walked got bright pink, the rest of us got navy
blue. With the wonderful cool day I was happy to slip it on and join the
vast navy-and-pink throng in the Holding Area. I first picked up lunch,
served 10:15 am - 3:15 pm, which was chicken salad on pita with fruit
cocktail. I got a seat at the table in the lunch tent and talked with
other finishers. One gal wonderfully went out and got in the Ben and
Jerry's line and brought me back a scoop of something chocolate.
My
next stop was to see about massage. I signed up and they said it would be
only a 20 minute wait. Great, as I had plenty of time before the Closing
Ceremonies.
I joined in one of the stretching classes to do a final workout of the kinks.
At last it was my turn and I chose the fronts of my thighs for my 8-minute treatment - racewalking works on those and they felt a bit tight.
I admired everybody's
blister treatments - the massage line was next to the
blister
treatment area. Such a variety as people hobbled about! I also saw
plenty of taped-up boo-boos, kinesiotaping, and few people newly on
crutches. Cell phone conversations filled the air as people tried to
locate their loved ones to coordinate for later.
I went up to the finish check-in to cheer as people finished. With the short walking day we all had to be in by 3:15 pm so we could begin to assemble. Things were pretty comfortable in the Holding Area for me. It felt good to just sit, cheer, and bask in the accomplishment. At last a cheer went up as the last walkers came in!
