50 States - 51 Capitals

About the Program:

Walk in each of the 50 US states and/or the 51 capitals - including Washington DC - to earn an award certificate. The events must be regular or year-round walking routes sanctioned by the American Volkssport Association.

Dates and Locations:

AVA sanctioned events, both regular group events and self-guided year-round walks are listed on the AVA web site by state. A printed guide to the year-round self-guided walking routes"Starting Point" is available each year. The program is retroactive - you can write in events previously completed.

Registration:

Purchase the 50 States/51 State Capitals book for $5 through local AVA clubs. Find a local club and contact through the AVA web site. Or you may order the book through the AVA for $5 plus $1 shipping. You need one book for states, one for capitals. Note on the cover which you are using it for.

Procedure:

For events completed once you have your books, stamp the book with the AVA event stamp at the event or year-round box. For events you did prior to getting the books, you may handwrite them into the books, all will be accepted. This program is an honor system - the events must be AVA sanctioned events but you detemine what counts otherwise.

Rewards:

When a book is complete, mail it into the AVA, 1001 Pat Booker Road Suite 101, Universal City, TX 78148. You will receive a certificate award. A deluxe package is available also including a patch and t-shirt for $25, check availability when you are ready to redeem your books.
