Cause: The fungus Trichophyton rubrum loves moist, warm areas. If you wear tights or constriction shorts you may be giving T. rubrum an ideal environment.
Treatment
- Non-prescription anti-fungal ointments containing miconazole and clotrimazole are available and effective in most cases.
- About 20% of the victims have recurring bouts with jock itch.
- Use the ointment daily and keep using it for a month after the rash goes away.
- Keep your groin dry.
- Wear loose-fitting clothes.
- Change your underwear daily.
Prevention
- Change out of sweaty shorts immediately after exercising.
- Switch to boxer shorts instead of briefs.
- After a shower, dry your groin immediately and well.
- Use talcum powder on your groin to absorb moisture.
