South Beach Diet Diary Week 7
Back to the Diet

I tried to go back to Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet three days after the marathon. But I had temptations still lurking around the house - a bag of tortilla chips, beer, Mike's Hard Lemonade. And the office - a dish of M&Ms. The net result was that I still was doing more of a Phase 2 diet.

Cravings: I have cravings. Those tortilla chips were made with good fats. I ate only a small portion at a time, with meals, so no great harm there. The M&Ms were just sheer chocolate craving. I also gave in to a Mike's Hard Lemonade or a beer each evening. The comforting thing is that these will soon be gone, and I won't be buying any more. My cravings were satisfied with a small portion rather than devouring the whole bag.

Weight: Even with the rewards and cravings, my weight continued to drop and by the fourth day of Week 7 it was at a new low.

Exercise: Post-marathon I eased back into exercise. Each day I did stretching. I went back to circuit training class on the fourth day post-marathon, plus had to walk some hills and stairs. On Saturday and Sunday, a week after the marathon, I walked 7 miles and 4 mile respectively. On the following Monday I rode my bike for 20 minutes with hills.
