Knock Your Socks Off: As National Diabetes Awareness Month draws to a close, the Happy Feet blog reminds us think about your feet at your next medical check-up. Foot problems in diabetes can turn from annoying to serious, even leading to amputation. If you have diabetes, knock your socks off and discuss any foot problem, no matter how minor, with your physician.
Hike!: Kiril Kundurazieff at Sneakeasy's Joint presents Hiking the UCLA Stunt Ranch Reserve at Cold Creek
Daily Weigh-Ins Keep Diet on Track: The GetFitSource.com blog reports on a research study that showed that daily weigh-ins help dieting success, and they have tips on how to weigh accurately each day. I've heard varying advice over the years - only weigh in once a week to prevent discouragement, just use the measuring tape and not the scale, etc. But for myself, the only way I stay true to a weight loss program is a daily personal weigh-in and a weekly public weigh-in. That gives me instant feedback on how I am doing and a weekly goal. Without that, it is too easy to hit the snack machine when I'm feeling bored or hungry.
Post-Thanksgiving Temptation: Laura Moncur of the Starling Fitness blog has great tips on how to deal with those tempting leftovers. This year I won't do what I often do: eat it all to get it "out of the way." It helps that I don't have many leftovers that are overly tempting to me - I made a crustless pumpkin custard (and burnt the edges) instead of a pie and I'm happy with 3 bites of it at a time. My husband will polish off the stuffing and gravy post-haste, leaving me with lean turkey to make into some great leftover dishes such as Sweet Potato Turkey Hash.
How Long Should Your Walking Poles Be?: David Downer of Nordic Waking News blog goes into detail about how to figure out what length of walking pole to choose. I have been using my walking poles faithfully for my 30-60 minute walking workouts.
