As we enter the darkest weeks of year, you may be joining in a night race. It may be a Christmas lights race or even a New Year's midnight race. You will need to take the dark into consideration and change your usual tactics.
10 Tips for Night Races
I'm a longtime veteran of night races and night walks. I just got back from the Las Vegas Rock 'n' Roll "Strip at Night" Half Marathon. Most of it is brightly lit by neon signs and streetlamps, but being at night still changes things. At least you've got a great excuse in Las Vegas to wear shiny, sparkly things! I've also done the Portland to Coast Relay many times, where the night walking takes place in the dark mountains with no light but the moon and stars. That can be a wonderful experience, or scary, too!
