What Not to Wear Walking - Celebrity Edition
The good folks at FITNESS Magazine sent me photos of their FITNESS Mind Body Spirit Games held on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Central Park, NYC. They raised over $10,000 for charity and promoted fitness to 5000 runners, walkers, and those who attended the other events. A good thing. But I was tickled by the photo of Denise Brodey (Editor in Chief of FITNESS), Maria Menounos (Host and MC) and Lee Slattery (publisher of FITNESS). Let's analyze this from a what not to wear walking perspective. On the left, Denise is wearing a great walking outfit, one I expect was made of high tech wicking fabric. She has excellent shoes. She is ready for a fitness walk. On the far right, Lee is outfitted for an autumn walk. I don't know whether her t-shirt is cotton or a high tech wicking fabric. I don't recommend cotton, as it doesn't let the sweat evaporate and you end up clammy. But her capris are a good choice for autumn weather, and she is wearing good shoes. She jogged the 4-miler. Both Denise and Lee are wearing a hat, which is an essential in any weather.
Alas, Maria (in the center) is not dressed for exercise of any kind. She is wearing a regular bra rather than a sports bra (as I can easily spot through her shirt). She is wearing jeans, which are a terrible choice for walking. The heavy cotton fabric retains sweat and rain -- and it was predicted to be a stormy day. Her loose hair, necklace, and arm bangles would be annoying if she were actually running or walking. And, finally, she is wearing heels! Obviously, she would have to at least change her shoes to do the run, but why not show up to host a fitness event actually decked out for fitness? Why not get outfitted in a cute running skirt and shirt by Zoot? It would be better if she were wearing a dress rather than casual wear that is inappropriate for any fitness activity. I almost wonder if their intended host was a no-show and they grabbed her out of the supermarket.
You may recognize this silver fox as actor John Slattery of Desperate Housewives and Mad Men. He is FITNESS publisher Lee Slattery's brother. He wears an appropriate hat to keep the sun and rain off his delicate complexion (I can see he is one of those who freckles). I am certain that he protects his skin with sunscreen. I still can't figure out if the shirt is cotton or not. But it is a shirt advertising the FITNESS Mind Body Spirit Games, so he is excused, although he might be a clammy mess by the end of the event.
