More Running Skirts - Not Just for Women!

Sunday July 6, 2008
Atalanta running skirtI've added reviews for running skirts from Atalanta, who's tag line is "Does this skirt make my butt look fast?" They have three designs, including a winter design that layers the skirt over capris. I thought the designs were clever and worked well. Atalanta is just one of many small companies producing their own specialty athleticwear. I also reviewed Bornfit's maternity and mom athletic skort. I love their wide waistband and after reviewing the skort and capris, I bought three pairs of capris to wear as my staple walking capri. Already I'm getting comments on the trail - where did I get those great capris?

I've always considered running skirts to be way too girly for me. It's really a knee-jerk reaction to Catholic grade school, where we were required to wear skirts and any play during recess was done while still wearing a skirt. Dodge ball, softball, soccer, we just ran around in the same skirts we wore to school. Once I escaped from the nuns, no more athletics in skirts for me!

I also forgot that running skirts aren't just for women - I've seen men in Utilikilts for years in my area. They have a Spartan Running Kilt designed just for the boys. If a kilt is manly enough for Sean Connery and Ewan McGregor, it's manly enough for any man, Scot or not. Personally, I think basketball shorts nowadays look like culottes already, so it's just one small step to a running kilt.
