Midnight Meander
- I was working overnights last winter and on a slow evening I decided to take a walk to wake me up. I work in a mixed-use planned community that houses an event center and a major bus connection, but at 2 am it's usually just us, the crickets, and the sleeping residents. This particular morning, a patrol officer decided to take a spin through the complex and I attracted her attention. I stopped as she approached and presented my ID and work ID when she asked. She seemed to have no idea there was an office building in the complex and even less idea that there were people there working overnight. Because they are required (policy? law?) to record all contacts, she did call in my ID, which could have resulted in trouble if I had anything outstanding. I didn't, so I got to return to my desk -- much more awake than I'd planned to be.

keep your dog on leash
- I generally walk most days in areas where dogs are required to be on leash. Really tired of dog owners not following this law. Off leash parks are available. I like dogs and I it doesn't matter to me well trained you feel your dog is.

Parks
- Parks are meant for people to be in... if an officer tells you to move along, it's because he doesn't like your looks (and yes you should move along), but a enjoying a public place for people isn't loitering. You won't be found guilty of loitering, you'll be found guilty of not obeying a police officer.

No Restroom Tips
- Even if you find a nice bush in the woods, I prefer to carry a light weight poncho in my pack so I'm completely covered up just in case someone else is there too. Cafes and Starbucks are good places for a bathroom break and they have never questioned for a quick stop.

Brazen dog walker
- I break the law everyday. I do laps in a park with my dog (he is trained) for about 90 minutes a day and a good 45 minutes of that he is off leash. I clean up after him and watch him closely, but I do get dirty looks from time to time. There is another lady who does the same thing in the same spot everyday and we have unspoken respect for each others 'space'. I had a lady on a horse scold me once while her animal pooped all over the trail.

Cactus Thief
- My mother is a repeat offender for stealing rocks and plants from parks while traveling. She got stopped in Saguaro National Park for digging up a small cactus to take home. I don't know how she talked the park ranger out of fining her.

Dangerous Character
- My walking buddy WG was out photographing scenery with his tripod, wearing his usual old Army pants. On his walk back home, he was suddenly surrounded by police cars. They approached him with extreme caution. It seems a concerned citizen called 911 to report a man wearing camouflage, walking down the road toting a rifle.
