Why I Wanted to Lose Weight
It was not just about weight loss ..rather it was about overall wellness. Mental, physical and emotional well being is interlinked. And believe me, you can't quite have one with out the other. The best way, as I have experienced is a combination of 30 minutes brisk walk and 20 minutes "Pranayam", which helps you control your breath and detoxify you.
My Exercise and Diet Journey
Try this... It worked for me!!!
Early Morning( known as Brahmamuhurta) is the best time for Pranayam. Sit down on a mat/blanket in a cross legged posture. If you cannot do that( Don't ask me why should I do Yoga if I could do that!!!) sit on a chair with back upright. First is Anulom-Vilom Pranayam..
-Relax your body,
-Take slow and longer breath
-Press and close your right nostril with your right thumb
-Slowly breath out through left
-slowly breath in through the same nostril (left)and feel your breath as you do
-Feel the lungs expanding like a balloon
-Now close your left nostril with the index and middle finger of your rt hand.
-Slowly breath out thru rt nostril
-slowly breath in through right nostril. Feel the cold air getting into you as you breath in.
- This completes one cycle.
It is also called "Nadi-shodhan".
Try and do it in seegments of 3-5 minutes at least two times with a small break in. As you become used to the process, which might take 10 days to a month if you do every day, u can increase the bouts to 3-4 times.
It cleanses your nervous system. It helps in mastery over your breath. Increases concentration. Balances your hunger and helps you gain control over mind.
Try this along with "Kapal Bhati". It is always better if you can learn it with a Guru/teacher.
You can also supplement it with a 30 minutes brisk walk in the evening. This combination worked wonders for me !!!
(Care: Other suggestions- bandhas and asanas- Do learn it from a competent teacher especially of you have chronic conditions) Dont forget to do your 30 minutes brisk walking in the evenings at leats five days a week!!!
