Why I Wanted to Lose Weight

My husband and I went on an amazing, romantic, once in a lifetime trip in April of this year. When we got home and downloaded the pictures I couldn't believe I was the girl standing next to my husband. I was too embarrassed to even post them on line to share with friends and family. That was my light bulb moment. .

My Exercise and Diet Journey

At that instant I was so inspired that I started combing the web for information. My thinking was "if you're going to do this, you're going to do it right this time!" No more yo-yo'ing. I was google searching walking for weight loss and found about.com. In the first few months I was dropping weight very quickly. I had been so sedentary and my eating habits were horrid, so it was easy with just a few simple changes. At month 4 I started to lose motivation. I wasn't seeing the dramatic weight loss and needed a new challenge. That's when I found 12 Weeks to Weight Loss on about.com. It included walking, encouraged finding alternate ways to burn calories, keeping a food journal and most importantly included strength training! I know now that you HAVE TO STRENGTH TRAIN! I am now in week 10 of the series and I'm seeing dramatic changes to my body on a weekly basis. I have gone from a size 22 to a loose 16. I have a ways to go, but now I have a solid foundation and know I'll achieve it this time!

Lessons learned

  • You have to strength train and keep a food and exercise journal. If you write down everything you eat then YOU WILL think about everything you pick up to put in your mouth.

Wendy Bumgardner, Walking Guide, says:

Congratulations! I am happy that the web site inspired you. Keeping a food and exercise journal is an excellent tactic. You can use one of our trackers, which include printable pages or a spreadsheet or pre-printed journal. Or you can use our free online Calorie Count program.
