Total Weight Lost

I lost 10 pounds and rehabilitated my knees and hips.

How Long Did it Take?

It only took 6 weeks.

Why I Wanted to Lose Weight

Actually I began walking because of injuries sustained from years of teaching dance. I gained 10 pounds from not teaching! I loved walking but I really hated carrying around those bulky hand weights and poles so I decided to invent something that would exercise and strengthen my upper body while I walked. It took me two years find the right clip, band and handle and get a patent. Gym in a shoe is two light resistance bands that clip on and off of the eyelet in any atletic shoe. See people walking with them on www.gyminashoe.com. The bands include an instructional DVD of upper body and leg exercise. Have Fun!

My Exercise and Diet Journey

My diet has always been pretty good. I don't eat a lot of meat because of the hormones and antibiotics. The same with chicken! I have a bowl of fruit with yogurt, All Bran and granola in the morning. I snack on fruits and hummus during the day and usually have pasta or rice and sauteed veggies at night.

I teach dance and began feeling some injuries to my hips and knees. The doctor told me to walk for rehabilitation. At first I resisted because it wasn't dance. After awhile I really began to love being out in the fresh air and walking along the beach. My hips and knees were feeling stronger but my arms, shoulders and chest weren't getting an exercise.

Since I invented Gym in a shoe I look forward to walking. My husband and I have each bought a pair of radio headphones. We both tune into the same song and walk with the music using the bands. We do 8 bicep, 8 tricep, 8 shoulders etc. It's a lot of fun because there are so many upper body exercises we can do together.

The only way to keep up with an exercise routine is to find something that makes you happy and is fun to do. Otherwise you will eventually stop! You cannot force yourself into exercise. It has to be something you look forward to doing every day. If you exercise with a negative attitude, energetically you will not receive any benefits. Just like eating with a fear of gaining weight. Your body is a unit. What the mind thinks, the body will respond. You are what you think as well as what you eat.

Lessons learned

  • Find something that makes you feel good! I don't need to pay for a gym membership and I certainly don't need a trainer telling me what I need to do. I know my body and I know how I feel. I am the only one with answers to my questions. Listen to yourself!
