Why I Wanted to Lose Weight
Had gained 15 kilos in the space of a year.
My Exercise and Diet Journey
I combined a low calorie diet of 1000 calories per day with a seven kilometer daily power walk.
To my dismay I did not lose ANY weight at all! It was depressing.
Finally I decided to try the Atkins diet, and my excess weight fell away with no problems, and no need to exercise.
Lessons learned
- Exercise does not help lose weight
- Find the diet that suits you
Wendy Bumgardner, Walking Guide, says:
Exercise alone is not sufficient for most people to lose weight because it is too easy to offset it with the calories you eat. While you may think you only were eating 1000 calories per day, it is likely that you were taking in more if you weren't losing weight. At 1000 calories per day, even an inactive person should lose weight. It is likely that switching to the Atkins diet you eliminated those extra calories because they were one of the forbidden foods. For those who think they are only eating 1000-1200 calories per day and still are not losing weight, it is likely that you need to go on a more structured diet because you really are eating more calories than you think. If you don't exercise while dieting, you will lose healthy muscle as well as fat, and can end up increasing your health risks even while being at a lower weight. Exercise is required for the proper functioning of our bodies and to decrease health risks.
