Total Weight Lost

41 pounds

How Long Did it Take?

I started walking in January of '08 for health reasons.

Why I Wanted to Lose Weight

Once I bought my first pedometer and started tracking the progress, I found myself picking up the distances and paces. The help and articles from Wendy have been very useful. I will be walking my first marathon in two weeks.

My Exercise and Diet Journey

I followed the training schedules on About.com:walking mostly. Being a Type 2 diabetic, I follow a pretty strict diet. Timing with eating around walking the longer distances is critical. I've been able to really enjoy the different areas I've worked in over the last 2 years. You are able to see much more from a walk than just driving around. I have been able to encourage others to start walking, and the change in their lives is exciting to watch.

Lessons learned

  • Spend the money and buy good shoes. Stretch every chance you get. Enjoy the journey, keep your head up.

Wendy Bumgardner, Walking Guide, says:

Congratulations and I hope you have a great marathon!
