A big black bear.

Where did you see the wildlife? 

I was walking the Rotary Trails in Golden, BC, Canada, came round a corner and there he stood - a big black bear. Although my heart was beating like crazy, I was so proud of myself because I avoided eye contact and slowly backed away, all the while crooning, "Nice bear, nice bear, I'm leaving now."

Tips and Tricks 

  • Golden is located in the midst of six national parks, so lots of wildlife.

Our Parks Guide has bear safety tips, including what to do if you encounter a bear on the trail. If you are observing wildlife, the signs in national parks say to stay 200-300 yards away from bears (two to three football fields).
