Guide Review - Tree Frogs
I live in a rainy climate, and I usually don't let that stop me from getting in my walking workout. But for longer walks in the rain, I would love to find something to put over my favorite walking to shoes to make them waterproof.
Tree Frogs are a waterproof overshoe that can be used with athletic shoes. They are very flexible and go over the shoes with a minimum amount of struggle. However, I found them to be a bit too narrow to give a good fit over my wide New Balance Shoes and their heels. As a result, my shoes were a bit constricted inside the Tree Frogs.Tree Frogs are very flexible, but they add quite a bit of weight to the shoe, and they definitely change your stride. As such, they aren't a perfect option to add at the last minute before a half marathon when the weather turns rainy. If you are training for a long distance event and anticipate bad weather, it would be better to train in a waterproof shoe -- if you can find one that is light and flexible enough.
I wore Tree Frogs on a wet day when there were leaves on the sidewalks, and I found myself slipping slightly twice in two miles. Tree Frogs have traction nubs on the bottom, but they weren't enough to keep me stable.
I haven't tested Tree Frogs long enough to know how durable they will be. I think they are a great item to keep handy for shorter walks in wet weather, much as I keep slip-on cleats in the car in case of snow and ice.
