The Bottom Line
For around $1000, the Smooth 5.45 treadmill is a very good selection for a folding home treadmill. True to its name, I found that it operates smoothly and quietly through speed and incline adjustments. It has a powerful 2.5 HP motor with a lifetime warranty. The treadmill stores nine user profiles and has five programmed workouts in addition to manual operation.
Pros
  • Quiet and powerful 2.5 HP motor
  • Folds easily
  • Solid and stable
Cons
  • Selecting a program isn't a one-step process.
  • The pulse grip monitor takes a long time to give a stable reading.
Description
  • User weight limit up to 275 pounds.
  • Folds up to save space.
  • Home delivery with set-up optional.
Guide Review - Smooth 5.45 Treadmill Review
Smooth is smooth. The solid steel construction of this treadmill, combined with their Whisper Weave™ treadbelt makes it a budget treadmill that is quieter and more solid than many health club treadmills I have used.

The Smooth 5.45 has a powerful 2.5 HP motor. Their warranty is for lifetime on the motor and frame, three years on parts, and one year of in-home servicing.

What can this treadmill do? It has speed adjustments from 0.5 to 10 miles per hour and incline adjustment from 0 to 15. I found that it went through speed and incline adjustments very smoothly while you continued to walk or run. At times I had it programmed for a speed I couldn't handle and it quickly adjusted the speed downward with the speed control button without any jerks or vibration.

The treadmill allows you to program stats for nine user profiles. Program age, weight and height to get a more accurate estimation of calories burned, distance, and target heart rate.

Use the five programmed workouts or the manual workout for interval training, distance training, or a heart-rate controlled workout. The treadmill has pulse grip monitors. To select a program, you either program it into a user profile or you change it through one of the user profiles. I found this to be inconvenient vs. selecting via a program button.

During your workout, the monochrome LCD display shows the speed and incline profiles, distance, speed, calories burned and pulse rate.

To fold up the treadmill, you lift up the back of the platform. It is a little heavy, but can be accomplished with one hand. To unfold it, you press a lever and it slowly lowers itself with no assistance. Your pet would have ample time and warning to clear the area.
