Treadmills in this price range vary from very basic non-motorized treadmills to models for runners. In the last few years several manufacturers have made some impressive strides in the $1,000-$1,500 range. They are backing them up with extensive warranties. The treadmill recommendations below are based on a number of factors, including third party reviews, customer testimonials, company reputation and warranties. Treadmill expert Fred Waters provides insight into the best budget treadmills.

The Smooth 6.25 treadmill is one of the better buys. Smooth only sells online and direct, passing the savings on to the consumer. This treadmill is excellent for both walkers and joggers. It is equipped with a 2.75 HP continuous duty motor, 2.5" rollers and an upgraded LED console and display. One of the best consoles under $1,500. The Swing Arm Suspension System excels at reducing impact. It weighs a hefty 260 lbs. What really makes this model a great value are the warranties.
