For many years, Old Apple Tree Park was a mostly-overlooked wayside off of Columbia Way and the Waterfront Renaissance Trail along the Columbia River. But each year it was celebrated during the Old Apple Tree Festival on the first weekend of October. This celebration often included a volkssport walk.

Apples are one of the top products of the state of Washington. This tree is considered to the matriarch of Washington's apple industry.
