Heading south now out of downtown on Seton Ave, we then headed for the Mother Seton Shrine. We walked around the imposing building in tribute to Mother Seton. There were nice views of town also, and broad, grassy expanses. Around the back of the shrine, we passed a cemetary, and driveways and sidewalks that connected the Shrine with our finish area at the NETC. A beautiful way to end up a very diverse and most interesting walk. Driving through Emmitsburg so many times through the years, I never knew how much there really was in this town. We had taken quite a bit of time for this walk today, as we missed that turn, had numerous entanglements with the leashes that took a bit of doing to fix, and enjoyed the scenery, taking several pictures from a variety of different vantage points.
Steve Duex of the Piedmont Pacers told me that there were 335 walkers for the two day event, more on Sunday than Saturday, once again due to weather conditions. A good turnout for a spot not exactly close to any large concentrations of people. I thanked all the Club volunteers who helped make the walk a success. I picked up a few brochures, and even a copy of the latest Piedmont Pacer newsletter, complete with an article on the Thurmont YRE I wrote about a few weeks ago. up in the Catoctins, clad in white from yesterday's snows.
