New Balance extra wide socks are made out of sweat wicking acrylic, polyester, nylon and spandex. Wet feet are more likely to blister, so sweat wicking socks are critical for helping prevent blisters.
The socks are anatomically shaped with a heel cup, toe cup, and a fitted instep area to help keep the sock in place. They are wide enough that my wide feet and bunion were not constricted at all.
The sizing of the socks is true to shoe size, with almost no shrinkage even when washing in hot water and drying in a hot dryer. This is a big selling point, as I have been buying large socks just to overcome shrinkage problems. But with New Balance, I could use medium or even the small size.
It is important not to have a sloppy fit to your socks, with extra fabric to form folds and cause friction and rubbing and blisters. These socks may end up being too wide for some people in that case. But for those of us with bunion pain, these socks will be part of the solution rather than the problem.
I almost never wear holes in my socks, but I had to discard two pairs of these socks after only a couple of months of wear due to holes. The fabric weave is very loose, leading to poor longevity.
