The Bottom Line

Wings of Nature has tasty snack bars that make good take-along trail snacks, especially for people who appreciate whole foods such as nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. They are more convenient than a bag of trail mix because the bars hold together well. I found them to be an enjoyable snack for during or after a walk. They are gluten free, trans fat free, and use no refined sugars. They are sweetened with agave syrup and organic brown rice syrup.

Pros

  • USDA certified organic fruits, nuts, and seeds
  • No refined sugar
  • Gluten free and trans fat free
  • Great taste
  • No coating to melt, not crumbly

Cons

  • A little sticky on the fingers
  • Seeds, nuts and dried fruit may irritate some with sensitive digestive tracts.

Description

  • Organic snack bar with easy-to-understand natural ingredients
  • 150-200 calories per bar
  • Natural sweeteners and complex carbohydrates
  • Tastes great.

Guide Review - Wings of Nature Organic Gluten-Free Snack Bars

We have a wide range of energy bars and snack bars to take along on a longer walk. But many of us are looking for gluten-free snack bars and ones with a healthier list of ingredients, preferably organic. Wings of Nature produces three snack bars that are great to take along for a walking snack.

Varieties of Bars

  • Espresso Coffee Bar: Organic coffee beans, brazil nuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, raisins. This was a tasty bar, the coffee flavor was not overwhelming, but blended with the other ingredients. Many energy bars add caffeine as it can help endurance, this adds it naturally.
  • Almond Raisin Bar: Also includes sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds. I found it to be an enjoyable snack and got the sense I was getting my fiber for the day (actually, 3 grams per bar.)
  • Cranberry Crunch Bar: also includes raisins, peanuts, almonds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds.

Walking Snack Performance

I found these to be very convenient for eating while out on a longer walk.
  • They are the right size to fit in your pack or pocket.
  • The packaging was not overly difficult to open.
  • The bars don't have a coating that will melt all over your fingers, although they do leave your fingers slightly sticky from the natural sweeteners.
  • They are not crumbly, the bar stays stuck together well.
  • They are easy to take a bite from.
  • I would not use them for high speed snacking, as the nuts and fruits do require chewing. If you have to breathe hard while snacking, this is not your bar, you need energy gel.
  • There is a pleasant variety of textures and flavors with each bite, making them enjoyable to savor.
  • The ingredients include a variety of seeds and nuts. If you have a sensitive digestive system, you need to test these to ensure you tolerate these without gas, cramping, etc. I would wait till the end of your walk to eat these if you often have these problems from snacks.
