The Clif C Bar is a double-layered fruit and nut bar that can make a good walking snack or after-workout snack. It only has 130 calories and a handful of ingredients, none of which requires a chemistry degree to decode. The bars are 70% organic and provide one serving of fruit per bar. The texture is a good one for packing along on a walk and eating while walking.

Taste, Chewability and Packability

Taste is very important for my walking snacks. I was only able to sample the Cherry Pomegranate Bar, and it was very tasty. Unfortunately, I then noticed that all four flavors of the bars include macadamia nuts, which I have to avoid due to a mild allergic reaction I have to them. The bars come in cherry pomegranate, blueberry, raspberry and apple. All include almonds, dates, and macadamia nuts.

How do these pack for active walkers, runners and bikers? These are two-layered bars, with the top being a softer fruit layer and the bottom a nutty layer. Both layers resist breaking up with the normal jostling they would get in your pocket or pack. The fruit layer is a bit sticky, so you may end up wanting to lick your fingers, and the packaging is a little sticky inside. But they don't produce any crumbs or crumbles.

The bar's chewing consistency is very good, as they are fairly soft and easy to chew. They don't crumble or fall apart. This is important to prevent choking if you are eating while breathing heavily while walking, running, or biking. However, the nuts can be a danger for inhaling and choking if you are panting and breathing hard.

Energy and Ingredients

Each Clif C bar has 130 calories, with 2 grams of protein, 4.5 grams of fat, 4 grams of fiber and 25 grams of carbs. That makes is the right size for a walking snack on a walk of over an hour.

Clif C bars are 70% organic, and you can understand everything on its short ingredient list. It's fruit, nuts, and a bit of sea salt.

Bottom Line: I think these are a good snack bar for walkers who want a non-crumbly, easy-to-chew walking snack that is high in fruits and nuts.
