Green Beans and Cabbage Recipe

A great side dish with few calories and lots of Vitamin C. Each serving: 31 calories, trace of fat.

Makes 6 servings

Prep Time: 0 hour, 05 minutes
Cook Time: 0 hour, 45 minutes
Ingredients:
  • 1 16-ounce can cut green beans
  • 1 tablespoon chicken bouillon
  • 3 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar
  • Dash of pepper - or to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • 2 cups chopped cabbage
  • Other spices to taste
Preparation:
You want the liquid from the beans - drain it into a 2-quart saucepan, retain the beans for later.

Add the bouillon, vinegar, sugar, and pepper to the bean liquid and heat to boiling while stirring.

Mix the cornstarch with the cold water and and stir it into the boiling mixture. Cook and stir until it thickens and is clear.

Add the cabbage and heat to boiling. Simmer, covered, for 35 minutes.

Add the drained beans and heat till hot.

Serve.

Variations:
Add a tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds.
For Indian spice, sprinkle with garam masala to taste.
Try different seasoning salts to taste.
