The Bottom Line
Xtenex Shoelaces can help you achieve a custom shoe fit for your athletic shoes. The patented collapsible knots in these elastic shoelaces allow you to adjust the tension perfectly at each eyelet. Guide Review - Xtenex Shoelaces
I should have read the instructions first for Xtenex Shoelaces, because I thought they wouldn't fit through the eyelets of my New Balance 833 shoes. But once I read the instructions I discovered there was a simple trick to collapse the elastic knots and lace your shoes - grasping on either side of the knot. Mission accomplished, I laced my shoes and adjusted the tension between each eyelet, ending with the laces just sticking out of the top eyelets without having to tie the laces.
Custom Tension Fit from Xtenex Shoelaces
To prevent blisters and black toenails, you want to lace your shoes so your heel stays in the heel cup and your foot doesn't slide forward with each step. That prevents your toes from banging against the front of your shoe with each step. Xtenex Shoelaces allow you to keep the tension loose by the toes while giving proper tension around the ankle to keep your heel in the heel cup. I was able to achieve an excellent fit for going uphill and downhill without heel slippage.
No-Tie Laces
With Xtenex Shoelaces, your shoes are now slip-ons, you don't have to tie your laces - or retie them when they come undone as you walk. The instructions give several tactics as to what to do with the ends of the laces. You can tuck them under, or even clip them off. I found it fairly easy to slip into the shoes even with maximum tension around the ankle eyelets.
