The Bottom Line
Note: The 804 is an outdated version no longer available. It has been updated to the New Balance 809, and the Compare Prices button will take you to that version. For trail walking or walking in rainy weather, this shoe provides stability and cushioning against rocks and roots while still flexing to allow you to walk faster.

Guide Review - New Balance 804 Trail Walking Shoe
When the weather turns bad or you want to go off the sidewalk and onto the trails, this trail running shoe can give your feet some extra protection. It is water resistant, which I found meant that I did have some dampness leaking through in a 45 minute walk in a downpour. It is well cushioned and feels like it provides some arch support. I found it flexible enough for walking at a moderate pace but didn't feel I could go fast in it. I also like that it has reflective strips for night walking, something many hiking shoes lack. New Balance produces the 804 in narrow, normal, and wide (A, B, D) to fit a variety of feet. It is being succeeded by the 805.
