The Bottom Line

The Fila Flow Sanctuary is built for people with neutral gait who need stability. While the heel looks big for walkers, the shoe is engineered to help you roll through a step without the arch collapsing. The heel and midfoot fits snugly so your foot is less likely to travel forward in the shoe. I found this shoe to be easy on my bunion with a smooth upper over the bunion area. I found myself naturally adopting a proper posture and feel like I want to walk fast in these shoes.
Pros
  • Stability shoe
  • Smooth upper doesn't irritate bunions
  • Flexible
  • Transition Control Midsole helps you roll through a step
Cons
  • For neutral to underpronators, not for overpronators

Description

  • Stability shoe with good cushioning for those with a neutral gait or underpronators.
  • Provides "cushioned guidance" so your heel strike to toe transition is smooth and stable.
  • Smooth upper is gentle on the bunion area.

Guide Review - Fila Flow Sanctuary Stability Shoe

I am constantly looking for a shoe without elements over the bunion area. At first, I didn't try the Fila Sanctuary because the heel is flared, which is usually not ideal for walking. But the salesman encouraged me to try them on, and the fit really sold them. They fit snugly in the heel and midfoot, while giving plenty of space for the toes. The transitional control elements under the arch keep the arch stable during each step, which in turn helps keep the heel in the heel cup and prevents the foot from sliding forward with each step.

The Fila Sanctuary touts its "cushioned guidance" as it is engineered to keep the foot straight and supported throughout the transition from heel to toe. The first time I wore them I could feel some shin complaints as they really were enforcing a better stride. But at the same time, I felt like I wanted to walk faster in this shoe, due to the excellent mechanics enforcing good stride.

The lacing system is excellent, with a lace-through piece on the tongue to ensure that the tongue stays in place. The laces are long enough for me to do some fancy lacing for even better heel retention.

For the fashion conscious, I get lots of remarks on the bright red and white "bowling shoe" styling, all of it positive. I guess I'll be wearing red and white for awhile.
