The Bottom Line
This pedometer has two very useful features. It can be set to automatically announce your distance or steps, plus you can push a button to hear them any time. It is actually loud enough to hear. It also has a personal safety alarm. Pull the pin for a alarm siren, put the pin back in and it stops. It counts steps and estimates calories burned. It displays activity time and time of day. The step total compared well with other trusted pedometers and it doesn't appear to overcount steps.

Guide Review - Sportline 344 Safety Alarm Pedometer
The Sportline 344 is a good talking pedometer. As I am getting older and my eyesight is changing, I see the value in having the big number display and the option of having it speak your steps, distance, and time. You set your stride length in order for it to calculate the distance. How to measure stride length

The 344 doesn't have a cover to protect the buttons from accidental reset. I got a strange reading on my second long walk with this pedomter, and I think it was because I accidentally pushed the reset button. It clips to your waistband and doesn't come with a safety leash. But adding a safety leash might be confusing because the personal alarm pin is on a leash similar to most safety leashes.

You can reset the step total using the reset button. You toggle between viewing steps, distance, calories, exercise time, and time of day with the mode button. The time of day and exercise time shows only in hours and minutes.

I the voice function, and it was loud enough that both me and my walking companions could hear it. The personal safety alarm is an added feature that may be very valuable.

The unit uses four replacable batteries.
