Lands' End Performance Sport Jacket

Lands' End Performance Sport Jacket

The Bottom Line

The Performance Sport Jacket is a great design for fitness walking and nordic walking in cooler weather. It wicks away moisture and dries quickly. I love the length and cut. It comes over the hip but has a tailored profile so it won't get in your way when you move your arms or use fitness walking poles. It has a back pocket for a cell phone, iPod, or other gadgets. Two front zip pockets are ideal for handwarming or carrying essentials. It comes in regular, petite and plus sizes.

Guide Review - Lands' End Performance SportJacket

Lands' End promotes this jacket as a great item for wearing when using fitness walking poles -- also known as nordic walking. It was love at first wearing. I think it is a great addition for my cooler weather walking wardrobe. Let me count the ways.

Comfortable, Stretchy, Wicking Fabric

The active knit fabric is 88% polyester and 12% spandex. It is soft enough to wear next to the skin. It gives in all directions so your movement is unrestricted, yet it is a beefy enough fabric to wear as a jacket. The fabric wicks away sweat, but it really soaks up rain - don't wear it as an outer layer on wet days. I first tested it on a very rainy day as my mid-layer, over a short sleeved T-shirt and under my rain jacket. I felt dry and comfortable.

Active Cut

The basic design of the Performance Sport Jacket is perfect for fitness walking, jogging, or nordic walking. The length comes over the hips without being too long and getting in the way of your hip motion. The cut is tailored so no extra fabric gets in the way of arm motion, yet it is not so tailored that those of us with tummies and tushes have a too-tight fit. It has a mock turtleneck with full zip. There is a covered zipper enclosure at the top, so the zipper won't irritate your neck when fully zipped.

Long Sleeves with Thumb Notches

I love sleeves that are extra-long with thumb notches. These sleeves were a great length for me, covering my knuckles, with a comfortable keyhole to put my thumbs through. The result is less of a need to wear gloves until the weather gets cold. This also keeps your sleeves from riding up when you wear it under a waterproof jacket.

Pockets

Two front pockets have hidden zippers and are spacious enough to carry essentials or to warm up your hands. A back pocket is handy for a cell phone or iPod.
