Definition: Carbohydrate stored in the liver and muscles. Glycogen is used as a fuel during exercise. The body generally has enough glycogen stored to sustain 65-85 minutes of exercise. Carbo-loading is a technique used by long distance athletes to increase the amount of glycogen available for a long event such as a marathon.
