The top two things moms want to do on Mother's Day is to go walking with their families and to go to the park, according to a Jenny Craig poll. "Mothers are role models to their children on how to lead and maintain a healthy lifestyle," said Lisa Talamini, Chief Nutritionist for Jenny Craig. "Family traditions can take the form of group activities including a walk, hike, or bike ride or a trip to the zoo, local mountains, beach or park."

1. Go for a Walk in the Park

Moms said they most wanted to enjoy nature with a walk in the park or at the beach with their families. Visit your local community web site to find the parks and trails nearby - you may discover some gems you only drove by before or never suspected existed.

2. Stop and Smell the Roses on Your Walk

Instead of focusing on how far you need to walk, pay attention to the unique sights, sounds and smells of spring. Your family will feel rejuvenated by the time you return home.

3. Get Everybody Moving

Yes, enjoy a Mothers Day breakfast, brunch or dinner. But then make everybody join in a family walk or bike ride around the neighborhood to help burn those calories.

4. Frisbee Fun

If you can't make them leave the yard, then get out the Frisbee and start tossing. Even the family dog can get involved. If you are Frisbee veterans, check for any local Frisbee Golf courses for a fun new sport.

5. Take a Hike!

If your family is in good shape, plan a family hiking trip for the weekend. It's the perfect time of year to see the wildflowers just emerging, the streams in full force, and new life everywhere.

6. Picnic in the Park

Moms say they want to go to the park, so take the feast along. You may need to book ahead for a picnic table or shelter, but it will be a fun and memorable time. Pack along nutritious foods such as fresh fruit and vegetables and plan to walk after you eat.
