Be Reflective for Night Walking
While you can buy clothing with reflective elements built-in, I find myself wearing my favorite gear that doesn't have any reflective patches. You can use See-Me-Run iron-on transfers to put fun reflective designs on any cloth item. While a name-brand shirt with reflective stripes can easily cost $40, See-Me-Run transfers are only $10.
See-Me-Run has running man and running woman and a winged shoe design. They also have tribal art and a compass rose.
The transfers will adhere to a variety of materials including polyester, cotton, poly/cotton blend and nylon. They provide a small tester you can apply to an inconspicuous area of your garment to see if it will work.
Iron-On Transfers
As an ironing dummy, this went well. It takes only 15 seconds to iron on the transfer, two minutes to let it cool, remove the backing, and you are good to go.
I chose a couple of items I wear at night that had no reflective elements -- a Camelbak pack, my favorite cool-weather walking hat, and a sports jacket. It was easy to iron on the transfers and I was pleased with how the items looked afterward.
I asked See-Me-Run about using the transfers on waterproof jackets. They said they should work on those. But the methods of making a jacket waterproof vary. So they recommend using the tester in an area that isn't vital see how it works. Luckily, my waterproof New Balance Storm Striker jacket already has reflective elements all around.
