Fun and Practical Running Skirts

You've gotta love Atalanta's slogan, "Does this skirt make my butt look fast?" Atalanta was a Greek goddess known best, in mythology, for running.

Running skirts can be both stylish and practical. I was impressed by the design and workmanship of these skirts. I liked the pockets and the differences in the fabric used for each style -- lightweight (Inspiration) and beefier (Commitment). Atalanta Athleticwear is designed and manufactured in the USA.

The Commitment running skirt has the typical configuration of a skirt over compression shorts. Both are made of Dry-flex fabric. This fabric wicks away sweat and stretches, yet provides support and compression. Compression shorts help prevent thigh chafing for those prone to this painful problem. The crotch is double-lined for comfort or wearing without additional underwear. The shorts are in a contrasting color to the skirt.

I am all about pockets, but they need to be located where I won't hook my thumbs when I am using vigorous arm movement. The two outside pockets on this skirt are on the back of each hip, where they won't hook your thumbs. Each pocket is big enough for a cell phone, MP3 player, energy bar or a small 6 oz. water bottle.

The Dry-flex fabric is beefier than the silky Coolmax Atalanta uses in its Inpiration shorts (see below). I think it might be better at hiding cellulite "cottage cheese" than silky fabric.

What if you want a very lightweight running skirt, and prefer a bunhugger panty instead of compression shorts? The Inspiration running skirt offers those features. I love the silky Coolmax fabric, which is usually my first choice for hot weather walking shirts and shorts. Coolmax wicks away sweat and dries quickly. You could even use this running skirt as a swimsuit bottom in a pinch.

The panty is in a contrasting color to the shorts, which is a flirty choice. There are slits on each side to provide greater freedom of leg motion.

There are two inside pockets that can hold an MP3 player, cell phone or other small essentials.

The Determination running skirt has a design I haven't seen anywhere else -- a skirt with the same short length as Atalanta's other two designs, but over a capri. It seems like a fun design for cooler weather walking and running. The skirt and capri are made of the Dry-flex fabric that is also used for the Commitment running skirt. The pockets are located on the outside, too. Atalanta suggests that the Determination would be good for the gym as well as walking and running.

Atalanta has its own size designations. Each skirt is available in a range of sizes equivalent to XS-XXL. There are several color combinations for each design.
