Walking Excuse Busters

Excuse: Can't Get Out the Door

It's time to walk. You want to walk. But you just can't get yourself to actually step outside or onto the treadmill.

Bust it:
Sneak up on yourself: Put on your walking clothes. Put on your walking shoes. Find your hat and other gear. While part of your brain says you don't want to walk, the other part is getting all ready.
All geared up: now tell yourself you are just going to step outside or onto the treadmill for a couple of minutes, since you are all ready and wearing your walking clothes.
Step outside or onto the treadmill: Again, tell yourself that you'll just walk for a couple of minutes, you can tolerate the weather and the activity for that long.
Now you are moving: and once you get underway generally you will keep moving. As you walk, your mood will clear up and soon you will be putting in your full walking workout.
• This is the "put one step in front of the other" method. Just take it a step at a time, trick yourself into getting ready and then just doing it for a couple of minutes. Once you are moving you will probably keep moving.
