The ultimate tactic to walking without fear of the dark or worries about weather is to use a treadmill.

Treadmills give an excellent walking workout and allow you to perfect your technique.

Gym: Gyms will usually have well-built treadmills that can stand up to constant use. The drawbacks can be getting access to the equipment when you are ready to work out, and using it as long as you wish. Some gyms have time limits for use of equipment if others are waiting. Many gyms battle the boredom factor by providing TV's, music, and headphones for use while working out on the equipment. Gyms may also have treading workout times when you can exercise with others, plus access to trainers who can answer your questions and give you advice on your workouts.

Home: The ultimate convenience is having a home treadmill. The drawbacks are that you need to select one that is sturdy, has the features you want, and doesn't break your pocketbook. Next, you need to find space for it, in a room that has the right temperature for a comfortable workout. Shop for a used treadmills around March after the New Years Resolutions have worn off.

Walking Off Boredom: Battle boredom by having entertainment available - a bookrack for reading, TV, stereo, headphones. Also use a variety of treadmill workouts to vary your routine.
