AVA Walking Convention 2001
Bellevue Walk  - June 28

Although this walk was just next door to the convention site, it was a wonderful walk in its own right.  The walk began at Wilberton Park in Bellevue.  I arrived just as the first wave of walkers was finishing, thereby clearing out parking spaces.

The 10 kilometer trail started out with a good uphill to get the heart going, then quickly descended back down through Wilberton Park on lovely wooded trails.  The trail continued on through the park and then on the Lake to Lake Trail to Kelsey Creek Park.

trailThe afternoon was perfect for walking - low 70F and fresh from the heavy rains of the previous day.  I caught up with Ford Forster and walked with him for a mile as we tackled hills through the neighborhoods coming out of the park.  Ford is the president of the Oregon State Volkssport Association, and we discussed state business as well as walks he did in Europe last year.

Japanese GardenThe second checkpoint was at a Starbucks.  Ford lingered for a latte as I pressed on.  It was back up the hill to the Botanical Garden and Japanese Garden.  I enjoyed the perennial borders along the path and the lovely plantings.

I finished the walk by 6 pm, with plenty of time to use the restaurant gift certificate I bought during the charity auction the day before.  And I looked forward to wrapping up in the quilt I bought during the charity auction earlier this day.
