It is no mystery why this walk through the core of the Big Apple is so popular. A list of sights along the 10 kilometer (6 mile) route is a tourist's hotlist to what is worth seeing.
The walk starts at the New Balance Store, 51 West 42nd Street, New York, NY 10024, Phone: 212-997-9112. The store opens daily at 10:00 a.m and closes at 7:00 PM M-F and at 6:00 PM Sat and 5:00 PM Sun. You should return to the store before closing. Store closes for New Years, July 4th, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

This is also a start point for another two Top Ten Walks, the Central Park Walk and the Lower Manhattan Walk.

To enjoy the walk, sign up in the log in the start box and take a map. This is also the starting point for another Top Ten Walk - the Central Park Year Round Walk, so you can sign up for it as well here.
I enjoyed this year-round walk on a trip to New York in June, 2000. It was my first visit to New York City. I stayed at the Milburn Hotel just a few blocks from the start point and loved the neighborhood - great restaurants, bagel shops, Zabar's gourmet grocery, close to Central Park and the museums.
The
walking directions may change from year to year but still include the major
highlights. Times Square provides excitement, news tickers, and the home
office of About. Seeing those famous buildings - the Chrysler Building,
the Empire State Building - was a thrill to this yokel.
Walking down Broadway, you can visit the theaters, Rockefeller Center, the Lincoln Center. Then visit the shops at Grand Central Station, and shop your way through town.
An optional 2 kilometer extension visits the United Nations Complex. The route returns through Central Park.
The walk is easily located via subway on the 1 and 9 train routes.
