The International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) met in May in Reading, England.

• The IVV celebrated its 30th birthday, and added new member nations of Israel, Iceland, South Korea, and Estonia.
• The 1999 IVV Olympiad in Bibione, Italy will be June 3-6.
• The 2001 IVV Olympiad will be in Seefeld, Austria.

• The Victoria International Blossom Walk was accepted as an IML event beginning in 1999. This British Columbia, Canada walk will take place the third weekend of April, yearly.
• The Indonesian IML event will not be held this year, 1998, due to the political unrest.
• The Israel Sea of Galilee Walk was withdrawn from consideration as an IML event.
• Sweden's LAX Marschen was not accepted this year as a sanctioned IML event.
