Cinque Terre, Italy Photos
About the Cinque Terre: Five fishing villages tumble down the cliffs to the Ligurian Sea, an arm of the Mediterranean. Accessible only by train and on foot, hiking between these towns is a pleasant way to spend a day on the west coast of Italy. Good walking shoes are recommended - I found sandals to be a bit flimsy for some portions of the trail. GoItaly: Plan your trip to the Cinque Terre.
Riomaggiore is often the beginning of the hike between the Cinque Terre towns. It is the southernmost of the towns. The trail between Riomaggiore and Manarola is a very easy 30 minute stroll on a wide paved trail, formerly the path the to armory and thus named Via dell' Amore, although now it beckons lovers rather than fighters.
