| winnie | adidas | running | W | Fit great, wide in toe box, very comfortable. | **** |
| Pookie | asics gel 140 | Running | W | These are really good shoes. They are really flexible and they don't slip on dirt trails. They don't have really any ankle support so don't get them if you don't have good balance. Lightweight and don't absorb much water. | ***** |
| Dailywalker | Asics gel 140 | running | W | This is a great shoe for run/walkers.Stable on the treadmill and good for over-pronators | **** |
| dinanah | avia | running | W | ok | **** |
| terry | carmont | hiker | M | good boot but can not get them in new zealand | ***** |
| dkm | converse | walking | W | Had roomy toebox, and felt good On a long walk, my little and 4th toe got blisters and calluses, tho. | **** |
| Easy Spirit 10-feathe | walker | W | Want to know if these are good for walking | ** | |
| kemp | Hi Tec | magnums | M | good pair of boots. full leather and feel like trainers. work well over distances between 0 and 100 miles.abit expensive, 65 pound. | **** |
| jp | Hi Tec | running | M | On the Hi Tec Enduro shoe one has to pay attention to how the shoe is laced. If lower portion of shoe is laced tightly, foot circulation can be affected. | *** |
| Earl | La Sportiva | boot | M | The M-Hiker is a semi technical hiking/backpacking boot It was slow to break in. It is easy the best long distance, rough country boot I have ever used. It has air cells soft support, excellent control, great ankle support and is water proof. i have owned Vasque, Garmont, Montrail, and Bass and none are close. | ***** |
| su | Liz Claiborne | walking | W | **** | |
| Janneke | Meindl- Berdina Lady | walking | W | They are not too heavy. Water doesn't poor in. You're feet don't hurt after walking. They have few stitches. | ***** |
| Christa | Mephisto | walking | W | Perfect shoe for me. Not too heavy; flexible sole, kind of cushion in the heel (very comfortable), some support of the ankles, but not too stiff. | ***** |
| Doc | Mephisto | casual | M | Mephisto is the best walking shoe I have ever worn...bought another pair in black.. | ***** |
| Monica | Mephisto Impala | Hiking boot | W | Wow! EXTREMELY comfortable, well-made shoes! Gore-Tex, aggressive tread sole, unbeatable ankle support. Broke in immediately, was walking 5+ miles a day in them within two days of buying them, and I'm VERY flatfooted. Only negative item is that I didn't like their innersoles, so replaced it with my own. I wear them with heavy socks. Purchased in Jan '96 for $250US, still wear them almost every day, average 4 miles a wearing. Comfortable, indestructible - I bought two more pairs! | ***** |
| edeweese | Mephisto Diva | walking | W | This shoe is pricey, but worth it. Everyone I know who owns Mephisto shoes loves them - and they last forever! Like other reviewers here, I do think the inner sole is too thin so wear with thicker socks. Extremely comfy! | ***** |
| omei | mephisto pamir | Hiking boot | W | Best shoes I've ever owned! Advertised as light hiking boots. Wore them to climb a 10,000 foot mountain carrying a 50lb backpack - No problem. I have flat feet and they never bothered me once. The shoes are almost $300 (US), and worth every penny. They are full Gore-Tex with aggressive tread, and hold your ankles very securely in place. My only complaint is the inner sole that comes with the shoe is rather thin, so I replaced it with one of my own choosing. My socks of choice to go with the shoe are the Mephisto (merino) wool socks. I've had mine for just under 5 years and they are just now starting to show signs of wear. The socks are machine wash and dry, and bleach does not affect them. The socks run between $20-$25 (US) (ouch! - BUT! they do last 5 years or more) The shoes and socks together are the best combo in the world! | ***** |
| louis | naturalizer charger | walking | W | good | **** |
| kkbutterfly | NB 753 WW | Walking | W | These $80 shoes were great for the first 150 miles. Then I started to feel the little squares through the insole in the forefoot.A sports insert helped some, but still I think I'll go back to my $45 Adidas Galaxy running shoes..... I have the St.George (UT) marathon to do! | *** |
| Sue | NB600 | crosstraining | M | I am a postal carrier who walks 6 Hrs a day. I have found that NB is the most comfortable and I can get them in black which I need. | |
| Chuck | new balance | walking | M | ***** | |
| bill | new balance | M | the widths are great because of the flat foot I have | **** | |
| jim | new balance 100 | racewalking | M | good flexible shoe light in weight. Perfect for the racewalker allowing you to get your toes up on contact and to push off. Run wide so not so good for folks with narrow feet. | |
| jimbro | New Balance 351 walking shoe | walking | M | I have been walking for many years, tried most all brands of walking shoes. Have discovered, that for my size 13 feet, the New Balance 351 is the best. | ***** |
| Jimbo | New Balance 586 | Running | M | I exercise walk (4 mph) for an hour each day. The 586s are great on streets and sidewalks, but slip a bit on dirt trails. | ***** |
| Bill | New Balance 659 | Running | M | I have tried many walking shoes and have determined running shoes are just better for the task. This model is so comfortable and supportive I get home and my feet just don't hurt at all. They are trail runners and provide excellent traction when I have to get on the shoulder of the road or walk trails. They have scotchlite strips also and I see cars begin to move over for me when they are 100's of yards off. Killer shoes. By the way I use them 20 to 25 miles weekly. | ***** |
| WB | New Balance 827 | Running | W | Flexible, lightweight shoe good for racewalking. Style discontinued fall, 1999. | |
| fitness walker | New Balance 840 | walking | W | I like this walking shoe because of the support and the comfort that it gives me. I have a high instep, and this has been the best shoe for that purpose. Also, I do a lot of walking a week and I belong to a walking club - I have put a lot of miles on this shoe - I will be getting a new pair in the spring. The shoe costs in the 100 dollar range ( I live in Canada, so prices are higher), but for serious walking, this is a great investment. | ***** |
| mbhank | New Balance 841 | Walking | M | A complete re-do of their flagship 840 walking shoe. The 841 was comfortable from the moment I put them on. Great shoe. | ***** |
| WB | New Balance 961 | Trail shoe | W | Sturdy trail shoe, high-top gives some ankle support. Waterproof and comfortable. Did 10K in it on first wearing with no blisters or problems. | |
| Sandman | New Balance 962 | Walking | M | Very comfortable shoe. Leather outside, soft inside and is like a good running shoe. Plenty of support, first time out no blisters or other pains. Good cushions on front and rear heal. | ***** |
| roc | new balance 990 | running | M | lightweight and comfortable right from the start. 3m reflective material adds a 4 direction safety feature for night use. great value for walking and running. | ***** |
| Faye | New Balance Strile Path | Walking | W | This is the first 'walking' shoe I've purchased. The cost was about $130 Cdn. but so far I think it is worth it. It has a steel plate from the heel to the arch to correct any improper stepping nd although this took a bit of getting used to because I have low arch, I now find that walking doesn't make my back ache as much as it used to. I would recommend this shoe. | ***** |
| jacque | nike | crosstrainer/court | M | Working in a shoe dept has given me the chance to try on hundreds of athletic shoes. Nike by far makes the most durable and comfortable cross-trainer/court shoe. I have a small, wide semi-flat foot, but the Nike arch always fits me properly. I have only purchased one pair that was another brand, Brooks Tsunami | ***** |
| jay | Nike | Air | W | Love the shoe | **** |
| tedy | nike | walking | W | **** | |
| waterboy | Nike | Runner | M | *** | |
| WalkerJo | Nike Air Vis Propensity III | Walking | W | Have tried many brands over the years, but find Nike's are the most comfortable for my high instep. This particular model ($74) is the most flexible and comfortable of all previous Nikes I've tried. Lots of reflector stripping also makes them safer for my early morning walks. | ***** |
| Nike Airliner | M | Nice | *** | ||
| jim | nike pegusus racer | racing flat | M | Very flexible shoe for racewalking. Offers good support and allows you to get your toes up and push off. Tend to be narrow so not a good shoe if you have a wide foot. | |
| KLR7 | Nike Shox | Running | M | Excellent!!!! Never spend $150.00 for a pair of shoes, but well worth it. Great feedback from each step. | ***** |
| selah | Redwings | Hiking Boots | ***** | ||
| selah | Redwings | Hiking Boots | W | Corrected review. Forgot to enter type on my first entry. Anyways, this is a ladies hiking boot that seems very comfortable - even during the break-in period. Nice soft buttery leather and suede inset behind the ankle bone. Very nice! | ***** |
| Werps | Reebok | walking | W | I love these walking shoes - they have never seemed stiff, even the first day I walked in them. I definitely would get another pair! As another person stated, they do have a funny sound when you walk on pavement, but the comfort is way beyond any other type of shoe I have ever had. I tried various type of running shoes, but when I tried this shoe on, it was a shoe in as to which shoe I was going to purchase. Try them - you will love them!!! | ***** |
| Jim | Reebok | walking DMX | M | Seem boxy, Not too flexible | *** |
| werps | Reebok DMX | walking | W | I forgot to give the model of the Reebok shoe - try them! | ***** |
| nick | reebok | walking | M | comfort, flexible, width | ***** |
| nick | reebok | flexible walking shoe | M | what is important t is comfort, width | |
| coolbeader | Reebok DMX | Walking | W | I absolutely love this shoe. Very comfortable and fits great. Best walking shoe I've ever had! | ***** |
| Susan | Reebok DMX | walker | M | excellent, gives great support to lower back, knees. | ***** |
| Darlene_1 | Reebok DMX | Walking | W | Took awhile to break in, but once they were the were very comfortable. The only thing I did not like was the noise of the shoe. It makes a squeak that is very annoying. I won't buy them again because of the squeak. Noise might not be that bad on some surfaces - I walk on cement 99% of the time. | *** |
| snorlax | Reebok DMX | walking | W | These are great if you like squeakers instead of sneakers! I've tried several pairs because I like all the features except for the noise that Reebok can't seem to fix. Return them to the store if it bothers you! | |
| cono | Reebok DMX Roadwalker | Walking | W | Comfortable, roomy, cushioned shoe for fast walking. I tend to blow out the air chambers in the sole in about 4 months though. | *** |
| NiceWalkGu1 | Reebok Roadwalkers DMXII | Walking | M | Reebok Roadwalker DMX II look great, a follow on to the Reebok Walk DMX but they have a flaw! Be very careful of these shoes...they have a seem with a stiff ridge right where a bunion would rub up against it. The shoes were comfortable in the store...but they were killing my foot...rubbing on a bunion...before a couple miles. I have had two years models of Reebok Walk DMX...but will abstain from the Roadwalker! I like these mostly black comfortably cushioned walking shoes for normal dress. Perhaps I will search for a store that has the Boston Roadwalker or the Rover...other DMX black leather walkers I read about at www.reebok.com ... but have not yet found in a store. Don | |

| babe | Ryka | walker | W | good walking shoe, flexible and stable | ***** |
| tat | SAS | WALKING | W | I think they are great | **** |
| Daniel | SAS Comfort Shoe | Bout Time | M | First time I spent $100 for a pair of shoes in my life. Best investment I ever made. Toes straightened out, no kidding! I sleep better. The shoes platform is constructed of polypropylene, thick durable. First shoe I can remember that 'has' an arch support you can actually feel! And, they are made in the *U*S*A! I am going back to get another pair so I can alternate them in daily wear! | ***** |
| WB | SAS FreeTime | walking | W | Great walking shoe - full leather but flexible in the right ways, you could racewalk in them. Not a stiff shoe at all. Great for standing, also. Black leather attractive enough to wear at the office with slacks. | **** |
| Jan | Saucony | Walking | W | Great fit for smaller heels. Hugs heels better than any others I have tried. They feel like a great pair of gloves. | ***** |
| lpatrie | Saucony | Running | W | Absolutely love them. No blisters, and I no longer have shin splints. Great arch support, and the heels feel like they're bouncing on a trampoline. | ***** |
| Barb | Scarpa Fabbiano | Hiking boot | W | This is the most awesome boot imaginable. Previously, I went through about three boots in five years; none fit properly, and blisters were a way of life. A kind mountaineer recommended Scarpa, and Italian brand that apparently works well for those with very narrow heels (me). I'm delighted. I've traveled hundreds of miles in my Scarpas, and wouldn't trade them for ANYTHING! | ***** |
| pachie | skechers 2250 | walkin tenis shoe | W | *** | |
| Flat foot | Soloman | Boot | M | Be very careful as these boots become loose with wear. Good for water resistance. Back up service very poor from retailer. | *** |
| pixy | Sportiva | on/off trail hiking boot | W | A great fit from the moment I put it on. Good for a narrow heel and for someone who hits hard on the heel. Wore it first time on 8 mile hike. Felt like pillows all the way thru. No hot spots! | ***** |
| MackAttack | Timberland | Skytrail | M | Living in Northwest Indiana, the weather and environments are vast and different. I prefer a full leather, ankle supporting boot. The Skytrail gives me this very well. The leather is well worked. It gives the firmness yet, breaks-in fast and without cracking. It is easy to clean and maintain. It is not over insulated, and makes a good year round boot. The stitching is excellent and has not hot-spots. The sole is just right in gripping but, not too over-lugged so it walks well on pavement. I looked a long time for this boot, and I am very pleased with it. I just wished I had this boot when I was in The Army Rangers. | ***** |
| Eider | Timberland 47022 | trail | M | After 1,000+ miles over the past four months with these footsters, I am well pleased. The best waterproofing I have seen this side of ducks and combined with Thorlo light hikers, they can't be beat for field and trail! (but I'm still looking) | **** |
| Marty | Timberland 95310 | Hiking | W | Very comfortable, I wear them most of the time when I'm not working. They are my favorite shoes. | ***** |
| klunk | timberland, hiking boot | hiking boot | M | this boot is for street walking and should not be taking on any trails exceeding 5 miles. | * |
| Klunk | Vasque, Treaker | hiking boot | M | very well constructed, well balanced weight and support, reversed full grain leather, aggressive tread. real nice boots. | ***** |
| vitamin C | Vasques | avanti | W | The best approach shoe I ever had. I can easily hike 30 km in 1 day and not get my feet tired. They last forever. The only thing is that I can't carry a very heavy load with them for a long time. At the end of the day, my ankles start weakening and they tend to turn. However, my husband has the same shoes and he doesn't have that problem. | ***** |
